Overview

ThockFactor is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our Service. Please read this policy carefully. If you do not agree with our practices, do not use ThockFactor.

1. Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create a ThockFactor account, we collect:

• • Email address
• • Password (hashed and encrypted)
• • Display name (optional, shown on leaderboard)
• • Account creation timestamp

Audio Files

When you upload audio to ThockFactor, we temporarily store:

• • Audio file (WAV, MP3, M4A, or MP4 format)
• • File name and size
• • Upload timestamp
• • Associated keyboard name (optional)

Audio files are deleted immediately after analysis is complete. We do not retain, archive, or listen to your recordings.

Analysis Results

After analyzing your audio, we permanently store:

• • ThockFactor score (0–100)
• • Acoustic subscores (thock depth, clack sharpness, etc.)
• • Detected traits (thocky, clacky, balanced, etc.)
• • Analysis timestamp
• • Associated keyboard name (if provided)

Your display name and score are publicly visible on the leaderboard. Other users can see your keyboard's rank and acoustic profile.

Usage Data

We track:

• • Number of analyses performed (for freemium limits)
• • Subscription tier (free or Pro)
• • IP address (for security and fraud prevention)
• • Browser/device type (for service optimization)
• • Page views and clicks (anonymously via Vercel Analytics)

Payment Information

When you subscribe to Pro, PayPal handles payment processing. ThockFactor does not store your credit card numbers. PayPal provides us with:

• • Subscription confirmation and status
• • Billing timestamp
• • PayPal transaction ID (not card details)

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your data to:

• • Provide and improve the ThockFactor Service
• • Authenticate your account and enforce security
• • Process audio analysis and generate scores
• • Manage subscriptions and billing
• • Detect fraud and abuse
• • Send service notifications and updates (opt-out available)
• • Analyze usage patterns to improve performance
• • Comply with legal obligations

We never use your data for marketing without explicit consent, and we never sell your data to third parties.

3. Data Retention

Audio files: Deleted immediately after analysis (within minutes).

Scores & results: Retained indefinitely for your account history and the public leaderboard.

Account data: Retained as long as your account is active. Upon account deletion, we remove email, password, and display name within 30 days. Scores remain on the leaderboard (as "Anonymous") for historical integrity.

Logs & analytics: Server logs and anonymized analytics are retained for up to 90 days.

4. Data Security

ThockFactor uses industry-standard security measures to protect your data:

• • Bcrypt password hashing
• • Supabase's enterprise-grade database encryption at rest
• • API key authentication for worker services
• • Regular security reviews and updates

However, no system is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute protection against all attacks, breaches, or unauthorized access. You use ThockFactor at your own risk.

5. Sharing Your Data

Public Data: Your display name and scores are publicly visible on the leaderboard. Anyone can see your keyboard's acoustic profile and rank.

Service Providers: We share data with trusted third-party services to provide ThockFactor, including database hosting, web infrastructure, and audio processing providers.

All service providers are contractually obligated to protect your data and use it only for providing the Service.

Legal Requests: If required by law, court order, or government request, we may disclose your data. We will attempt to notify you unless legally prohibited.

Business Transfers: If ThockFactor is sold, acquired, or merged, your data may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will provide notice via email or in-app notification.

6. Your Rights & Choices

Access: You can view all your data in your ThockFactor account settings.

Correction: You can update your email, password, and display name at any time.

Deletion: You can request deletion of your account. We will remove personal data within 30 days, though your scores remain on the leaderboard under "Anonymous" to preserve historical data integrity.

Communication: You can opt out of service notifications in your account settings. We will still send critical security and billing emails.

Analytics Opt-Out: You can opt out of analytics collection in your browser settings.

7. Children's Privacy

ThockFactor is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from minors. If we discover a child using ThockFactor, we will delete their account and data immediately. Parents who believe their child's data has been collected can contact us at hello@thockfactor.com.

8. International Data Transfers

ThockFactor is hosted in multiple jurisdictions. By using the Service, you consent to the transfer and processing of your data internationally, which may have different privacy laws than your home country.

9. Third-Party Links

ThockFactor may link to external websites (keyboards, communities, etc.). We are not responsible for their privacy practices. Review their privacy policies independently.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. Material changes will be announced via email or in-app notification. Continued use of ThockFactor after updates constitutes acceptance.
